UPDATE: Russian users of Viber still have problems – Down Detector

(Adds comment from Viber in last 3 paragraphs)

MOSCOW, Apr 19 (PRIME) -- Viber users in Russia are still complaining about troubles in the messenger’s work, according to the Down Detector resource seen by PRIME on Thursday.

The resource says that 63% of Viber’s Russian users lack connection, 32% have problems with message delivery, and 3% with status issues. Troubles are seen on some of the country’s cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Viber has been malfunctioning since Monday, when the communications service blocked another popular messenger, Telegram, which could have caused troubles on Amazon’s servers, used by Telegram to skirt the closure.

The communications service is blocking some IP addresses of Amazon and Google.

Yana Rozhkova, director for communications at Viber in the CIS, said the messenger is worried by the connection troubles.

“Because of the decision of the Russian authorities to block one of the messengers, several mobile operators were forced to limit access to a number of servers of Internet providers. These measures resulted in connection troubles for Russian users of some online services, including Viber,” she said.

“We’re deeply concerned by the fact that our company has become a hostage of the situation, which hurts our users…Our specialists are doing their best to restore full access to Viber for all users quickly.”
